Exploring the senses of Korean society and culture through music, we create discourses for the future
The Music Research Team investigates the meanings of music within Korean society and culture, focusing on the flow that connects traditional and contemporary Korean music. From classical art music to K-pop and contemporary compositions, we analyze how tradition is reinterpreted within the modern musical landscape from aesthetic and historical perspectives. In doing so, we question the relationship between music, society, identity, and sensory experience, aiming to cultivate music discourses that transcend eras and genres.
Through seminars, research presentations, interviews, and concert analyses, the team fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and critically reflects on the present state and historical foundations of Korean music in collaboration with researchers from Korea and abroad. At the intersection of tradition and modernity, locality and globality, we seek to uncover new musical meanings.
Music transcends boundaries and encompasses a wide range of social issues.
