[Academic] Colloquium - “When Korean Literature Encounters ‘K’: On the (Dis)Harmony between Korean Literature and ‘K’-Literature”

2025-10-27

The Institute for Contemporary Korean Studies at Seoul National University’s K-Narrative Research Team holds a monthly colloquium to critically explore the signs and trajectories of contemporary Korean narratives. We invite and encourage participation from all members of the university community.

The presenter for October 31 is Professor Youkyung Son from the Department of Korean Language and Literature at SNU. In a talk titled “When Korean Literature Encounters ‘K’: On the (Dis)Harmony between Korean Literature and ‘K’-Literature,” she examines the disproportionate representation of ‘K-literature’ and ‘Korean literature’ in the global publishing market and academia, and considers how K-literature, as a form of translated literature, might be reconceptualized from the interdisciplinary perspective of Korean Studies.
