Seoul National University’s Center for Contemporary Korean Studies is hosting a regular open seminar series featuring scholars from Korea and abroad, with the aim of deepening academic understanding of contemporary Korean society and promoting scholarly exchange. The Political Economy Team plans to hold at least one seminar each month. Please refer to the attached program for the seminar schedule currently confirmed through March of next year. Additional topics will continue to be added, and we look forward to your interest.

On Friday, December 13, the Political Economy Team will hold its first seminar, featuring a presentation and discussion by Professor Sea-Jin Chang of the National University of Singapore. The presentation will focus on the structural changes and leadership transitions of Korea’s major business groups, the chaebols, after the Asian financial crisis, with particular attention to the changing environment they have faced and the ways in which they have adapted.
