Kwon Hyeong-Ki
Professor Hyeong-Ki Kwon teaches Political Science in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University. His research interests include comparative politics, comparative political economy, political theory, and European politics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and has conducted extensive research on the relationship between capitalism and democracy, comparative models of advanced political economies, and the reconfiguration of nation-states under globalization. He currently serves as Director of the Institute for Korean Politics at Seoul National University and has published numerous articles in leading journals such as Politics and Society and Comparative Political Studies.
His major works include The Establishment and Evolution of the Irish Social Partnership Model and Changes by Competition (Oxford University Press, 2021), both of which received the Korean Political Science Association Book Award.
Kwon HyunJi
Professor HyunJi Kwon teaches in the Department of Sociology at Seoul National University. Her research focuses on labor markets and industrial relations, comparative employment systems, and employment relations in the service sector. She earned her Ph.D. from the ILR School at Cornell University and previously conducted research and teaching at the Korea Labor Institute and King’s College London. Her recent work analyzes the restructuring of labor market institutions and inequality in the context of rapid societal changes such as industrial transformation, global value chain reorganization, and digital transition. She also examines gender inequality, relational and categorical inequalities within organizations, and the employment trajectories of youth and women. She currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Korean Journal of Industrial Relations and has published widely in both domestic and international journals.
Kim KyungMi
KyungMi Kim is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track researcher) at the Sapienza University of Rome. She earned her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Political Science from Seoul National University. Her primary field of research is the political economy of Korea, with a particular focus on the characteristics and historical evolution of the Korean model of state coordination from a comparative political economy perspective.
She is the author of The Korean Developmental State (2020) and has published articles such as “Persistence or Change? Evolution of the Korean Developmental State” (Journal of Austrailian Political Economy, 87, 2021) and “The State’s Role in Globalization: Korea’s Experience from a Comparative Perspective” (Politics & Society, 45(4), 2017,
co-authored).
Song Jiyeoun
Jiyeoun Song is a Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University. Professor Song’s research lies at the intersection of comparative political economy and social welfare policy, with a regional focus on East Asia. It examines several related themes: the politics of labor market reform, the diverging paths of social welfare policies under the pressure of socio-demographic challenges and technological innovation, and the political economy of social and economic development. She is the author of Inequality in the Workplace: Labor Market Reform in Japan and Korea (Ithaca, NY: Cornell University Press, 2014) and articles in Governance, Social Policy & Administration, Asian Survey, Journal of East Asian Studies, and other outlets. Professor Song’s teaching at SNU focuses on comparative and international political economy in advanced industrialized countries and East Asia, social and economic development, and international development and cooperation. She has been currently working on socio-demographic challenges, the impact of technological innovation on labor markets and the future of work, and energy transition in the context of climate crisis, with a focus on East Asia.
Shin Jin Wook
Professor Shin Jin Wook is a Professor of Sociology at Chung-Ang University and serves as Director of the Center for German and European Studies (ZeDES), funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Free University of Berlin, and has held positions as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and visiting professor at Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Graz, Austria. His primary research interests include democracy, social movements and collective action, and social inequality. His recent work focuses on democratic crisis and extremist politics, and on new landscapes in social movement studies. He has served as Vice President of the Korean Social Policy Association and Vice President of the Korean-German Social Science Society. His major publications include <Modernisierung und Zivilgesellschaft in Südkorea>, <시민>(Citizens), <다중격차: 한국사회 불평등 구조>(Multiple Inequality: Structures of Inequality in Korean Society, co-authored), <그런 세대는 없다: 불평등 시대의 세대와 정치>(No Such Generation: Generation and Politics in an Age of Inequality). His forthcoming books include <12.3 이후의 사회학>(Sociology after 12.3), <글로벌 극우> (Global Far Right).
Park Hyeon Seok
Park Hyeon Seok is a Research Fellow at the National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI). His primary research interests are legislative politics and comparative political economy including the tax policies of left- and right-wing political parties. He has published numerous articles and reports on the legislative politics and the political economy of budgetary process in an era of polarization. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from Seoul National University, and his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Iowa. He previously served as a professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at KAIST. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Korean Journal of Legislative Studies (의정연구).
