■ About this book

This volume offers an in-depth examination of Hallyu, foregrounding its importance as a critical subject of cultural, theoretical, and decolonial inquiry.

With the global success of cultural phenomena such as BTS and Squid Game, Hallyu has developed from a fan-based subculture in Asia into a major global cultural phenomenon. This transformation calls for a reassessment of Hallyu and its broader cultural significance.

The book is organized into three interconnected parts—historicizing, theorizing, and decolonizing. By combining historical analysis, theoretical innovation, and decolonial critique, it presents Hallyu as a dynamic framework for understanding the changing structures and relationships of global culture in the twenty-first century.
