We are pleased to announce the first session of the second project year of the regular open seminar series hosted by the Political Economy Team of Seoul National University’s Center for Contemporary Korean Studies.

This seminar will examine the legislative process and the durability of its outcomes under unified and divided government, using the 21st Korean National Assembly as a case study and approaching the topic from a comparative political perspective. Within Korea’s institutional context, characterized by strong party discipline and a presidential system, the seminar will explore how cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties affects the stability and durability of legislation. In particular, by comparing the subsequent volatility of bills passed solely by the ruling party with those passed through consultation with the opposition, the seminar will consider the substantive effects of government type and patterns of interparty cooperation on legislative outcomes.
